BANGI, 6 June, 2011 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM) hopes
the problems it faces over its internet connections within the campus
is a thing of the past with YTL Comunications providing 4G mobile
internet network infrastructure.

The 4G mobile
internet network infrastructure to be provided by YTL
Communications allows for the fastest wireless internet broadband for
UKM staff and students.

This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU)
between UKM and YTL Communications last  Friday. UKM has been
facing two major problems over its internet connections within
the campus over its rising internet network storage and single point
failures.

“Apart from taking over the UKM’s online storage burden, the 4G
network will become the alternative line to avoid single point of
failure in the UKM,” said Executive Director of YTL
Comunications, Yasmin Mahmood at the signing.

The MoU was signed the by Vice-Chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Wira
Dr. Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin and Yasmin.

The cooperation between them will be in the form of  Education’s
Partner Programme (EPP) which is a service provided by YTL to
enable campus members to access internet anywhere and anytime.
Campus members will enjoy 4G mobile internet network service and
voice call at any of the university’s campuses in Bangi, Cheras or
Kuala Lumpur at high speed but reasonably fair rate.

The cooperation also promise various offers to UKM students which
are free 300 MB of data or 100 minutes of calls or 100 SMS
(equilavent to RM 9) per month.

“By having the YTL 4G Program, UKM was hoping to build a more
progressive learning environment that will nurture a powerful generation
that can generate knowledge at their
fingertips.

“This is the aim of the National Broadband Initiative aimed at making

Malaysia a knowledge society so as to realise the goal of becoming
a high income nation by 2020,” said Prof Sharifah Hapsah at the
signing ceremony. It was attended by senior UKM staff and Director
of the UKM’s Information Technology Centre,
Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Shanuddin Zakaria.
